Max Hattler - Live Visuals

Max Hattler is an animator you’ll be much more familiar with by the end of 2007. He’s a graduate from the Royal College of Art and his final graduate film Collision is featured in our new touring program coming in January. Writer Taylor Jessen, (you know Taylor’s work from AWN’s “Fresh from the Festivals”, “Animation Blast 9” to name a few) conducted a number of interviews for the show recently. Max and the rest of the animators in our new program all took part and these will be released over the next few weeks. In the meantime I caught up with Max recently over e-mail and aside from making new independent films in Volda Norway, he's been putting his VJ skills to the test. You can find his handy work at clubs and film festival parties all over the UK. He’s a resident visualist with Digital City and VJ alongside bands like Liberation Jumpsuit and Economy Wolf.

Just watching his VJ reel makes me wish Animation Show could at least take a few nights off this winter to mix it up. But don’t look at the VJing as a sign that Max has been slacking off from film making. He completed a new short called Striper v0.1 featured in the DVD magazine Ruga, released not that long ago and a new music video for his avant-rockers friends Economy Wolf. The video features (as Max describes) “my old kindergarten friend Johannes doing some expressive dance on grass.” Yes! I'd post more links here but you should really visit Max's site yourself to see all of this.  His choice of style in film making seems to depend entirely on the project making it pretty difficult to predict where Max is going to land next. If you’d like to connect with him I’d recommend Myspace. Most of Max’s work has been posted and he invites your friendship. For a full run down on his schedule hit his official site here. Dec 15-17 Collision screens at Videomedeja festival, Dec 21 he’s Vjing with bleepgeeks allstars in Ulm, Germany, Jan 6 he’s Vjing sets at the Roxy Bar & Screen with fellow animator Run Wrake, on and on into 2007. Finally for some swanky holiday wear visit Max’s online shop for Collision wear. We’ll have a lot more info on Max with Taylor’s interview in January.   In the meantime find Max's VJ reel over at maxhattler.com and treat yourself to some truly live visuals.
