QUOTE (Am01ne @ May 17 2005, 04:43 AM) So purchasing these french sets would be redundant if one already owned the earlier Image releases? Not if the Flip the Frog cartoons listed above as missing from the Image discs are included. |

So it's just the Flip cartoons than, and if so, can anyone confirm whether the following are offered on the French sets...
Jail Birds (1931) Fire! FIRE! (1932) Phoney Express (1932) Pale-Face (1933) The Village Specialist (1931) Flip's Lunch Room (1933) Puppy Love (1932) Flying Fists (1930) Stormy Seas (1932) Africa Squeaks (1931) Little Orphan Willie (1930) Bulloney (1933) Also, does anyone have any info as to whether the menu screens and whatnot are all in French? France isn't PAL, is it? -------------------- WARNER BROS... Bring MGM's HAPPY HARMONIES / BARNEY BEAR / TEX AVERY Series To DVD!!! |

I wouldn't mind buying the Flip collection (just for completeness sake), but as I already have all the Comicolor cartoons on the Image "Cartoons That Time Forgot" series and Steve's Attack of the 30's Characters DVD, I'll give that one a miss

I have the M2k Flip the Frog DVD. I've never seen the Image set so I can't compare them. The cartoons do look good on the French set. The French set also includes a brief documentary on Iwerks & his studio. English subtitles are available for the documentary.

The French Betty Boop set had interlace problems. Can you still
frame through the cartoons on this set without jitter frames or combined frames? thanks steve -------------------- Stephen Worth sworth@animationarchive.org

Yes, I can still frame through the cartoons without any problems. Here are some screen shots from Africa Squeaks.

I wish we had these in the states, I wonder if some people can post the Flip cartoons that are not on the Image DVD on youtube. I love Flip!

I haven't done extensive comparisons, but so far I would say the Mk2 Flip the Frog set is worth the upgrade from the Image discs for quality alone, not to mention the missing cartoons. The image is much more stable and clean, but not in a digitally scrubbed to death way, and the sound is miles better, with the Image sounding like a sock is over my speaker(s). There's also better detail because the black level is balanced better....the Image discs often look "blasted out", so that some background details seem to be invisible.
I got mine from a seller on Amazon Marketplace (France, of course), for around $25, shipped. There was only one seller who shipped internationally, acsadis_, but I see it is relisted by him at EUR 9,95 currently. Might have to try the Comicolor set now! I have a Mac G4 and the DVD player automatically turns off the screen shot function, and there's no way to just grab a frame off the screen that I know of? It would be great to be able to get screen shots that could be compared in another program. |

You can find it at http://www.yellowmug.com/snapndrag/. |
