From Broadcasting Legends Group, "Woody Woodpecker Show" intro from WNEW-TV channel 5 from 1986. This includes the "We'll return" and rejoin slides. For those of you member would have a chance to see this opening from the good old days of WNEW-TV (channel 5) when it was a defunct Metromedia station. Enjoy!

That's quite a throwback! I also remember that in the 1980's, WNEW ran a 60 or 90 cartoon show of Warner, Popeye & Lantz cartoons under a title like THE WORLD'S GREATEST CARTOON SHOW. The best part was Channel 5's editing of the clips and utilizing Spike Jones music for the track! To the better ole days of broadcasting!

That was kinda neat. Brought back alot of memories when local stations would make bumpers for their classic cartoon packages. Sure, it's not as 'fancy' as the bumpers made for cable, and syndication packages, but it had a certian charm that you don't get on TV these days.

Neither in Argentina. Universal always used the traditional Woody Woodpecker openings and closings.

In that way, several years ago, the cartoons were shown in the defunct Fox Kids Network, now called Jetix and controlled by Disney.

Used to remember the days when it was like that in the US when local stations had to create their own openings. I can remember one my local former ABC affiliate did in the earlyi '80s that used some cheezy video graphics and the cartoons of several studios were lumped into an hour-long block or something under the title 'Fantastic Fun Festival".

Funny how things like this happen.

Same thing in Spain; curiously, in the 90´s the W.W. show was re-run here showing just the cartoons, without the Lantz openings and closings.

I had the chance of seeing the "new" syndicated W.W. show in 1988, during a trip to the U.S.; I recall finding the opening sequence with Woody and all the Lantz characters -animated, if I am not wrong, by Quartet Films, according to the closing credits- quite well done, certainly better than the final batch of Lantz cartoons made in the early 70´s.

Currently the Spanish Boomerang channel airs W.W., but unfortunately these are the new Woody cartoons produced by Universal.

I am able to update something about Woody Woodpecker. His cartoons are now broadcast on an Uruguayan television station from Monday to Fridays at 11:30 AM.

On the same channel, but at 5:00 PM there is a Pink Panther show.

If somebody in Montevideo knows about it, let us know. The old Argentinean shows derived from worn 16mm dubbed prints and in many an ocassion the sound was totally out of sync.

Is it that unfortunate?
Sure, the cartoons aren't great, but I'm curious to know more about them anyway. The series only aired for a couple of months in the USA, and dozens of episodes were never shown at all. I'd be curious to see how they utilize such later characters as Dapper Denver Dooley and Ms. Meany, both of whom I've seen redrawn on the show's merchandise in a pseudo-1940s style.
The episodes I've seen only included Woody, Woody-related (Knothead/Splinter, Winnie), and Chilly cartoons. I've heard rumors that other characters had cartoons of their own, too— any information?
