With the addition of the Banana Splitophile to our ranks-GREAT FLEAGALI-- I'm reminded of the day in the late sixties, when I went to Six Flags over Texas, All the great classic rides--The Spelunker Cave, Spindletop, the Super Slide--- and this really weird, almost Cartoony Fuzzy Fab Four as it were running around the park-- riding rides-- I slid down the Super Slide with them--- EVEN. Imagine my surpse when that fall they had their own TV show with that day documented throughout -- yep it was the BANANA SPLITS! When we moved to Hawaii a couple years later, the Banana Splits did about 20- 30 concerts at every event possible, and I caught about 10 of them--- Ahhhh the Memories-- even the late Barry White got his start as the Split's"stuntsinger"..... Pardon me while Do The Banana Split---"Yeah I'm Doin' It!Haaaaaa-- Doin' the Banana Split Yeah Yeah Yeah" -- reminds me of James Brown.

Thanks for the welcome.

That's very cool, and it's possible that you might be visible in some of the shows. The amusement park footage filmed at Six Flags Over Texas was used throughout the first season (those are the episodes that were repeated in syndication and have since aired on Cartoon Network). The original first season opening titles also used footage shot at Six Flags, although that opening title sequence has not been shown (at least in the USA) since 1969. For the second season (1969-1970), new amusement park footage was shot at Coney Island in Cincinnati, Ohio (and it's the second season opening that adorns the currently available reruns, even though the second season shows themselves have never been repeated since 1970). One other thing: Coney Island was not the same park as King's Island, though they were owned by the same company. Coney island eventually closed and several of the attractions (including some of those seen in the often-repeated Banana Splits opening) were relocated to King's Island. I've never been there myself, but I have been told that the famous "slide" they all fall down in the Season 2 opening is long gone.

Kings Island took the slide out in the mid-90's for Nickedelon's Splat City. The Slide was renamed Shaggy's Slide, for Hanna-Barbera Land.

P.S. If you watch the Brady Bunch episode where they go to Kings Island, you can see the Banna Splits in it.
I have question about the Banna Split and Kings Island. Supposely in the 70's, ABC aired a Satursday movie that supposly feature the Splits at Kings Island, is this true and is it on video?

Shaggy's Slide? That's practically sacriligeous! Everyone knows the slide belongs to Fleegle! dxsmile.gif

I've got to get over there some day and check the park out. I understand the characters are no longer seen there, though. :(

Yes, some of the "Banana Splits" and "Hair Bear Bunch" characters are visible in episodes of both "The Brady Bunch" and "The Partridge Family" that were filmed at King's Island in the early 1970s.

The show you asked about is called "The Banana Splits In Hocus Pocus Park." It was an episode of "The ABC Saturday Superstar Movie" which aired in 1972, two years after "The Banana Splits" series ended. It's never been released on video (officially), but copies of it have been going around and it was repeated on Cinemax in 1982, HBO in 1985, and Cartoon Network a bunch of times since the early 1990s. Yes, I believe the special was filmed at King's Island.

I remember seeing the Banana Splits, Hair Bear Bunch and Scooby Doo at a personal appearance at a Toys R Us (or maybe it was still known as "Bargain Town" then) store in suburban Chicago in 1972 (the slides my father took that day are stamped November 1972). It was a great day, but I'm still puzzled as to why the Splits would be making a personal appearance more than two years after their show went off the air...and I think "The Hair Bear Bunch" had just gone off the air too. The costumes looked kind of ragged; Drooper had lost his glasses and Snorky had lost his vest. Bingo, Drooper and Snorky looked very similar to the Season 2 characters' costume designs, but Fleegle was an obvious impostor. Maybe I'll post some of these pictures on the Banana Splits website so someone can make knock-off T-shirts or buttons of them and sell them on ebaY without compensating me or my father. dxsmile.gif

The Hanna-Barbera characters still appear at the park, mostly Scooby. Supposely the park uses the old Hanna-Barbera on and off in the season for Hanna-Barbara Land. I believe there still is a Yogi, Fred Flintstone, Barney, Captain Caveman, Hong Kung Fe, Cindy Bear, Boo Boo, George Jetson, Astro, and Dino costumes.

Since Kings Island is now owned by Viacom, they mostly use the Nick toons such as Spongebob and the Rugrats.
