Does someone have a list or know of a website that lists the cartoons on those old Starmaker tapes? There are 9 or 10 of them. They're all titled "100 Greatest Cartoons" or "50 Famous" cartoons" or something like that. I Have the first one, ever. It's the greatest PD tape I've ever seen. I'd like to get the other volumes. They're all over ebay. I'd like to see the listing first , though, because I'd hate to buy another and it have the same cartoons on it give or take a few. PDs are bad about that. I've searched and searched...

QUOTE (#60 @ Mar 1 2004, 05:43 PM) Does someone have a list or know of a website that lists the cartoons on those old Starmaker tapes? There are 9 or 10 of them. They're all titled "100 Greatest Cartoons" or "50 Famous" cartoons" or something like that. I Have the first one, ever. It's the greatest PD tape I've ever seen. I'd like to get the other volumes. They're all over ebay. I'd like to see the listing first , though, because I'd hate to buy another and it have the same cartoons on it give or take a few. PDs are bad about that. I've searched and searched... Can't help you with that list because I don't have any of those tapes and absolutely HATE to get PD tapes or DVDs unless the material on them is unavailable anywhere else. As the DVD market grows, there are more animation DVDs on the way. Sad to say that most public domain DVDs tend to be made from horrible tape masters, degraded film prints, and have badly mixed 5.1 tracks. Quality PD DVDs are far and few between that don't have somebody monkeying with the cartoon soundtracks. One thing in addition to asking other people about this stuff is to do a search on your own with a Search Engine like Yahoo! or Google. Chances are if you have the titles of the tapes correct and the name of the manufacturing company (Starmaker) correct, you'll find something on your own. One tip that I just learned about using Search Engines: when you do a search for terms, enclose those terms in quotation marks (" "). For whatever reasons, it's a lot easier for Search Engines to actually come up with website hits that actually have something to do with whatever you're looking for INSTEAD of listing every hit that has those words in them. I don't know why you'd want to buy VHS tapes off e-Bay at this point. DVD players are so cheap now that there's no reasonable excuse for most people not to have one unless they're super-poor. A lot of public domain collections are finally being released as DVDs and that's a much more durable format. Chances are that any VHS tape you'll get will be degraded. The shelf-life on VHS tapes isn't great and they degrade just sitting in boxes or shelves due to the magnetic nature of VHS tape. |

I beg to differ, but being that I grew up with PD videos I cannott refrain from loving them.
Now I have a collection of around 250 of them, so I've been busy in the past 8 years buying up some good ones (at least I think so ) Anyway, that's a huge chunk of my video cartoon collection (which is around 580 cartoons) and most are very good prints. The only exceptions are the common faded NTA prints... but some are just beautiful, like 'Cupid Gets His Man'. -Dinky -------------------- My Early Animation Blog

Tapes are like $1. I've been using VCRs for years just fine without DVD players. I do have a DVD player but that doesn't mean I'm chunking my VCR. No DVDs of quality, production wise, have anything that I haven't seen a zillion times anyways. Atleast some of the older PD tapes have valuable stuff on them that's not a hack job...like most of that suppossed wonderful Woody stuff from CH.
